KL Rahul cleared the fitness test, will lead the Indian team in Zimbabwe ODIs
India will travel to Zimbabwe for three ODIs starting on August 18. The BCCI has given rest to the senior players, while a few players have made their comeback to the national side after recovering from injury. Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, star batter KL Rahul and seam-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar have made their way back to the team.

However, there was some speculation about Rahul's fitness ahead of the tour, but the Indian board has put an end to all rumours. As per the latest developments, the BCCI has confirmed that Rahul has passed the fitness test held at the National Cricket Association (NCA) in Benguluru and is available for the Zimbabwe ODIs.

The medical team of the Indian board assessed the progress and condition of KL Rahul closely, and he has cleared all the required fitness tests. Notably, the 30-year-old suffered a back injury ahead of the start of the home series against South Africa, which kept him out of action for months.

Later, he went to Germany for his hernia surgery as well. He was named to the squad for the West Indies tour, but he tested positive for COVID, forcing him to miss the entire tour. However, the selection committee had picked him in the Asia Cup squad but there was doubt about his fitness.

However, now as he is fit to play in the ODIs, the selection committee has also named him the captain for the Zimbabwe tour. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan was named the captain for the three ODIs, but now the left-hander will assist Rahul as vice-captain.

So it will be an ideal opportunity for the 30-year-old to prepare himself for the Asia Cup as he has already missed 2-3 months of cricket. The tour will start on August 18th with the first ODI at Harare Sports Club. The second and third games will be played on August 20 and 22 at the same venue.
