Key player ruled out of Big Bash League 2022-2023 with a long-term injury

Mitchell Marsh

Perth Scorchers have suffered a major setback in the Big Bash League (BBL 2022-23) season. Two main players of the team have been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Australia's Mitchell Marsh and England's Phil Salt will not be able to play for the Perth team this season.

This bad news has come to the fore for the Perth team ahead of the 12th edition of the Big Bash League starting on 13th December. However, no one has been selected in place of these two veteran players yet. The Perth Scorchers will take on the Sydney Sixers in their first match on December 17th at the Optus Stadium.

It may have been a big blow for the Perth Scorchers team, the winning team of the last Big Bash League, but the team will enter the tournament with strong contenders. Perth all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has suffered a keyhole injury to his left ankle, ruling him out for nearly three months.

Mitchell Marsh has scored the most runs in this tournament for Perth. Apart from Marsh, England's Phil Salt is also battling a shoulder injury. He has suffered a grade 2 ligament injury in his left shoulder, so he too will be ruled out of the tournament.

Perth Scorchers General Manager Cade Harvey has said in this context, "It is very disappointing to lose Mitch Marsh and Phil Salt so close to the start of the BBL 12 season. Mitch Marsh is one of the finest batsmen in world cricket and his leadership and presence with the team is huge. While Phil has proved his class for England and in T20 tournaments around the world, it is unfortunate that he will not be able to play for the team."
