"Kohli never built the team as Ganguly did" - Virender Sehwag draws comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly.
The Indian team has been blessed with some of the greatest leaders in the game of cricket. Sourav Ganguly was undoubtedly the finest leader of the Indian team that changed the art of playing cricket in India. After him, MS Dhoni took India to another level.

And after him, it was Virat Kohli who did many unachievable things in his leadership. But there are always questions about who is the best captain in the history of Indian cricket. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has also shared his opinion on this.

During an interview with News18, Sehwag stated that while Virat was a great captain based on the statistics, he had never built a team like Ganguly did in his time. He also highlighted that Ganguly was always there for the players in bad situations as well and built a totally new team.

The former opener said, "Sourav Ganguly built a new team, brought in new players and backed them through their highs and lows,” remembers Sehwag. “I doubt if Kohli did that in his tenure.”

Pointing to Virat's captaincy, he said that there was a trend during his captaincy of changing the players irrespective of the match results for the first 2-3 years. That is not what a No. 1 captain does.

Sehwag concluded that the captain always gives confidence to the players and that is how you build a team. He ended, "He (Kohli) backed some players, some he did not."

However, both were great captains in their time. And the Indian team has had great success under the captaincy of these two.
