Pakistan legend asks PCB to consider Babar Azam's captaincy
Pakistan cricket team legend Javed Miandad believes that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should hold talks with Babar Azam regarding the captaincy. The 27-year-old Babar is currently the all-format captain of the Pakistan cricket team, and has performed well in all three formats of the game so far.
Although Babar Azam was struggling with the bat recently, he has regained his form in the ongoing T20I series against England, where he hit a century and a half-century, but he is still not consistent. Therefore, Javed Miandad said that the PCB needs to take a decision keeping in mind Babar's workload and ease with the captaincy.
Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Javed Miandad said that Babar Azam is a world-class batsman but PCB should ask him if captaincy is taking a toll on him? He further added that he think there should be a direct, simple and clear conversation between Babar and the board about captaincy.
He continued that if Babar honestly feels that he cannot perform well with the bat while captaining, then the burden of captaincy should be removed from him.
He added that Pakistani players have to realize that they are very good cricketers, so they are part of the playing XI and that you are a good player and now all you have to do is do what you have been asked to do on the field, then the best performance will come automatically.
