India series win ODI England

Team India defeated England in the ODI series recently. Rishabh Pant scored a brilliant century to make that happen. It was a long-awaited series win for India in the ODI format against England on English soil. It was way back in 2014 that they achieved it. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the playing XI when India last won an ODI series in England before 2022.

India usually struggles in Tests but when it comes to the shorter formats, they have been good in England. In 2013, the team won the Champions Trophy and gained good confidence. They used the same to defeat the Englishmen a year later. In the four games, India won the first three encounters but lost the last match. We take a look at the playing XI of India in the last game.

Openers: Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan

Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan were the openers in the playing XI when India last won an ODI series in England before 2022. Rohit played the first match and was then available. Hence, Rahane came in as the opener. He had a good series and even got a hundred in one of the matches. Dhawan usually does well in England and he had a decent outing in this series.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni (C&WK)

Team India had a strong middle-order for this series. While Virat Kohli had already occupied the No.3 spot by then, Rayudu was also doing well at that time. He got a couple of good scores in this series, including a half-century. Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni, as usual, were at their best in this series. Raina even got a hundred in the tournament.

All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was the only genuine all-rounder in the playing XI when India last won an ODI series in England before 2022. In the final game, he scored an 87 and brought India close to victory. Jaddu is one of the players who were part of both this squad and the latest squad that won the ODI series against England.

Bowlers: R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav

R Ashwin was a common name in the XI then. He was the lead spinner and hence, he was a part of the XI. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shami and Umesh were the pace trio in that encounter. Shami also featured in the latest series victory for the Indians. While Bhuvi was part of the T20 squad, Umesh Yadav was in the setup for Tests this year. Both players helped India win the ODI series in 2014.
