The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will play county side Leicestershire in a four-day warm-up match to get into the swing of things before the one-off Test against India that is slated to take place at Edgbaston on July 1. On Thursday, the game is scheduled to take place at Leicester's Grace Road County Ground (June 23).

Prior to the commencement of the Indian Premier League's 2022 season, the Indian players last competed in a red-ball match against Sri Lanka in March of this year. Team India scheduled a game against the county team in order to practise for the important one-off match against the English in their own backyard.

It was decided by the team management, ECB, and LCCC to have a pre-match agreement in place that will allow four Indian stars - Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna - to play for Leicestershire against India because India had announced a 17-member squad for the rescheduled Test that will be played in Nottingham.

The remaining 11 players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and top batsman Virat Kohli, will play for India while the four will represent the English county team. R Ashwin will miss this practice march due to Covid-19.

After it was revealed that the former Indian captain had COVID-19, there were questions regarding Virat's availability. However, a team source denied all of those rumors, telling Cricbuzz that "all players are available for selection" and that "there is not a single COVID instance in the camp."

Sam Evans will captain the Leicestershire team which will include Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Prasidh krishna and Jasprit Bumrah. It will be fascinating to see how players react when facing their own teammates. KS Bharat will be wicket keeping for India in the absence of Rishabh Pant. Pant will be back after the warm up game.
