Strong playing XI of cricketers dropped by their teams for 2022 T20 World Cup
Due to various reasons, some popular players will miss the 2022 T20 World Cup. While injuries are the top reason, there are also players who have been dropped on form. A team can only pick a limited number of players and due to the combination requirements, some cricketers have been sidelined from the mega event. In this article, we take a look at a strong playing XI of cricketers dropped by their teams for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The 2022 T20 World Cup will start on October 16th. After the qualification stage, the Super 12 phase of the tournament would begin. Four teams will qualify for the semi-finals before the summit clash.
Note: We have not included players who have been put on standby for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Openers: Jason Roy and Sanju Samson (WK)
Jason Roy and Sanju Samson are the openers in this strong playing XI of cricketers dropped by their teams for the 2022 T20 World Cup. In Roy's case, it is more of his current form. He is struggling to make runs while the likes of Phil Salt have been enjoying good form. Sanju Samson's exclusion cannot be termed as 'dropped' because he has not got sufficient opportunities in the first place. Nevertheless, a player of his talent will be a major absence at T20 WC.
Middle-Order: Shoaib Malik, Shimron Hetmyer and Mahmudullah
Shoaib Malik has been scoring runs in domestic cricket but despite the struggles in the middle order, Pakistan has not included the veteran in the team. Hetmyer was initially selected for the T20 World Cup but since he missed a flight, he has been dropped from the squad. It is a strange reason and Hetmyer will definitely miss the big stage. Mahmudullah led Bangladesh in the 2021 T20 WC but due to poor form, he will miss the upcoming event.
All-Rounders: Andre Russell and Fabian Allen
Russell and Allen are the all-rounders in this strong playing XI of cricketers dropped by their teams for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Russell has actually not played for West Indies recently. The management seems to have moved on from him and hence, they did not select the player. Fabian Allen also has had issues with consistency and did not find a place. There are other spin-bowling all-rounders doing well for West Indies and hence, Allen was not selected.
Bowlers: Sunil Narine, Mahedi Hasan, Matheesha Pathirana and Avesh Khan
As per reports, Sunil Narine was not interested in a return to the setup. The management has also decided to move on. Mahedi Hasan has been dropped from the Bangladesh squad and Avesh Khan will not feature for India. Avesh was part of the recent tournaments but his form was very poor. Therefore, he has been excluded from the team. Matheesha Pathirana has made his Sri Lanka debut but the team already includes experienced pacers and hence, the CSK cricketer was not selected.
