"Yes definitely, everyone's estimation" - Sunil Gavaskar feels Hardik Pandya can lead Team India in near future
Gujarat Titans, captained by Hardik Pandya, won the IPL title in their first season after defeating Rajasthan Royals in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The newly founded franchise has trusted the former Mumbai Indians player with leading it. Despite the fact that few people gave Hardik's team a chance, he was confident in his players' capacity to perform effectively in difficulties.
Sunil Gavaskar, who was impressed by Hardik Pandya's leadership qualities in the IPL-15, believes the star all-rounder has emerged as a viable contender to head the Indian squad in the near future. Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans to a historic title win in their inaugural IPL season, changing the doubters into believers.
Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports, ''Yes definitely. Not just my estimation, but everybody's estimation”. He said hardik’s reputation as a leader has gone up and this was an aspect of his game which nobody had too much information about'. He also said when you have leadership qualities then the national team door opens automatically in the near future.
Gavaskar said that there are 3-4 names in the ring and not sure Hardik Pandya is next in the line but it will be exciting to see who gets and he also said that it is a good problem for the selectors to have. He further added, he has leadership skills because of the way he has led the squad, the way he has brought them together, and the way he has gotten them to click together was amazing to see.
In total, he scored 487 runs and took eight wickets in the IPL-15 season. Hardik has also made an India comeback this season, owing to his IPL success, and will play in the forthcoming five-match T20I home series against South Africa, which will be captained by KL Rahul.
