"No, I can’t see his name coming up" - Sunil Gavaskar on former India captain's chances in the World Cup

Dhawan

Dhawan, had another successful season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 460 runs in 14 games for Punjab Kings. Last season, he had 587, and the year before, he had 618.

Many young pacers and batsmen got the opportunity to play for India in the series vs South Africa. But Shikhar Dhawan missed out on this squad. Many feel it was his age which keeps him out of the side and giving opportunities to Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad may help in the future.

Dhawan did not make the final T20 World Cup squad despite being among the runs and guiding India on a tour of Sri Lanka last year. It's no secret that each place on the national team is fiercely contested.

When Sunil Gavaskar was asked about the Shikhar Dhawan chances for the World Cup he said Dhawan may miss out on the trip to Australia. After his omission from the T20I side against South Africa it will be hard for Dhawan to make it into the T20 World Cup.

Gavaskar said, " No. I don't see his name popping up. If it had to pop up, it would have been in this squad".He also said that with a lot of guys leaving for England he could have been in the squad but it was not the case for Shikhar.

Sunil Gavaskar said it will be Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul opening the innings for India at the T20 World Cup in Australia. Greame Smith also said India will go with Rohit and Rahul at the top.

India will face Pakistan in their first match in the T20 World Cup. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will look to counter the swing of Shaheen Afridi in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik may play a key role in the World Cup for India.
