"He is not a certainity in the Indian T20I squad"- Wasim Jaffer questions Indian batter's inconsistency

Rishabh Pant's problems with the bat this season have caused some in the Indian cricket community to doubt his place in the current Indian team, and one veteran cricketer believes that it will be hard for Rishabh Pant to make into the world cup squad.

Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, believes Pant, who is currently captaining India in a five-match series against South Africa, isn't a sure thing in the current side, especially as KL Rahul returns to the XI as a top-order batter who can also keep wickets, and veteran keeper-bat Dinesh Karthik's recent resurgence is taken into account.

Wasim Jaffer said When KL Rahul returns, he walks to the side. He's also a wicketkeeper. Dinesh Karthik is a wicketkeeper who is almost certain to play. I wouldn't call Rishabh Pant a certainty based on his recent performances.

Pant didn't quite live up to his great expectations as captain of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022, and he hasn't exactly lit the stage on fire in the present series. Pant's failures has been compensated for by the opening duo of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who both excelled in the third T20I against the Proteas, putting on a 97-run first-wicket stand to provide the basis for a competitive total. Kishan, who is also a keeper-batter in the side, is the highest run-scorer in the ongoing T20I series, with 164 runs at an average of 54.66 and a strike rate of 157.69 in three games.

With the T20 World Cup around the corner selectors will have a big headache in selecting the wicket keepers in the squad. Dinesh Karthik looks like a certainty looking at his form. Looks like Rishabh Pant has to earn a spot in the side and it doesn't seems like he walks into the playing 11.
