"Absolutely Phenomenal", Aakash Chopra Hails 'Lord' Thakur's Impact At Wanderers

Shardul-Aakash

Shardul Thakur was India's best performer in the loss to South Africa in the second Test at the Wanderers a few days ago. A few experts had questioned his place in the XI but Shardul answered the critics in style. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was in awe of the impact that the Mumbai player had on the game.

Thakur returned with a seven-wicket haul in the first innings

India had posted an average total in the first innings. Hence, the bowlers had to step up so that the Indians could stay in the game. However, unlike in the first encounter in which the likes of Bumrah and Shami gave early wickets, the same was not possible at Wanderers.

It was Shardul Thakur who stepped up for India. He took seven wickets and helped India restrict South Africa to a minimal lead. Later, with the bat, Shardul scored 28 runs and increased the lead for India. He came back with another wicket in the second innings.

Aakash Chopra hails Shardul's performance

Before the game started, Aakash questioned Shardul's performance in the XI. However, Aakash has now conceded that he might have been wrong with his judgment. He also praised the player for the impact on the game.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash said, "He just turned this Test match on its head by that inspiring spell. He took seven wickets, which is a huge achievement. After that, he scored crucial 28 runs with the bat because of which India got a lead of 239. So, in my opinion, Lord Thakur is absolutely phenomenal."

The third Test will start on January 11th in Cape Town. After losing the second game, Team India will be looking to win the third encounter. This will then lead to a historic series win. Virat Kohli is likely to return as Team India's skipper.
