After Corey Anderson USA cricket aiming to gain Liam Plunkett's services
The United States of America aims to become a cricketing powerhouse in the near future. Since the American team does not have extraordinary local players, the cricket board has sought the services of cricketers from other nations.
Earlier this week, former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson announced his retirement as a Kiwi player and made himself available to play for the USA team. Now, reports have emerged claiming that the 2019 Cricket World Cup-winning player Liam Plunkett could become their next recruit.
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, USA Cricket had three major cricketers on its radar. The first was New Zealand’s Corey Anderson, while the second was Pakistan’s Sami Aslam. Liam Plunkett was the final name present on that list. The reason why Plunkett can represent the United States is that his wife is from Pennsylvania. Also, the cricketer spends his winters in the US.
Many fans might not have noticed that former South African fast bowler Juan Theron made his debut for the United States last year. Thus, the USA Cricket board is trying its level best to form a solid team with discarded players from other nations.
Talking to ESPNCricinfo, ACE co-founder Sameer Mehta said:
“I think we'll be in the unique place where we'll have international-quality cricketers who will relocate to the US and play in our local leagues and be part of the fabric of the local community."
Liam Plunkett was asked about playing for the USA earlier this year on BBC Radio 5 Live's Tuffers and Vaughan Show. The right-arm fast bowler who has played for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL previously confirmed that if an opportunity arises he would not mind leaving England.
Corey Anderson and Sami Aslam will play Major League Cricket as they have earned a 3-year deal. Liam Plunkett could be the next big name to join the league.
