Ahmedabad franchise set to appoint Ashish Nehra as Head Coach for IPL 2022

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season will feature two additional teams in the form of Ahmedabad and Lucknow, and both are active assembling their coaching staffs before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction takes place.

In the most recent development, former Indian cricket team fast bowler Ashish Nehra is all but set to become the Head Coach of the Ahmedabad franchise for the forthcoming IPL edition.

Retired England opening batsman Vikram Solanki, meanwhile, is set to take over as the Ahmedabad based franchise's 'Director of Cricket.' Another significant advancement surrounding the new team is that India's World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten is slated to become the team's mentor, and for which, a Letter of Intent (LOI) is being prepared.

What the Source said ?

A source close to the development stated to News18 that Ashish Nehra has been hired as the team's Head Coach with Vikram Solanki and Giry Kirsten also in the list as the team's 'Director of Cricket' and Mentor respectively.

The source further added that the franchise is still not allowed to make any announcement as they still await the Letter of Intent (LOI) from the BCCI, but the franchise has already held talks with above mentioned names.

When it comes to Nehra's stint as a coach of an IPL franchise, he has spent many years working with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, with whom Kirsten was also involved. 

Nehra and Kirsten has also got good working relationship as both of them have previously worked together when Nehra was a regular Indian national team player and Gary Kirsten was the Head Coach of the team, and both guided India to the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup glory.

When it comes to former pacer's relationship with Vikram Solanki, he has a very special relationship with the former England opening batsman, who has also has previously worked with an IPL franchise in a coaching capacity.
