Ahmedabad IPL franchise in talks with Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra to join Coaching-Staff

Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra set to be roped in by Ahmedabad IPL franchise

Gary Kirsten has proved to be one of the most influential coaches in the world. He is now likely to be part of the coaching staff of an IPL franchise once again.

The legendary South African batsman has been the head coach of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League.

According to a latest report by Cricbuzz, former India head coach Gary Kirsten is in the running to be a part of the Ahmedabad team's support staff and so is former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra. An important thing to note is that both of them have been part of the coaching staff of the Bengaluru-based franchise as well.

Apart from this, when India won the ODI World Cup after 28 years under the guidance of Gary Kirsten, Nehra was a member of that team.

Meanwhile, the report further states that former England player Vikram Solanki can also join the coaching staff. Earlier the CVC-owned Ahmedabad franchise was reportedly in talks with the Indian coaches as well. These include Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, who were part of India's coaching staff till a few days ago.

The final decision regarding the coaching staff of the Ahmedabad franchise is expected to be taken only after CVC Capitals gets the nod from the BCCI.

However, this is not likely to take much time as CVC Capital expects a positive signal from the board. They have invested in IPL from their Asian fund and the same was informed to the BCCI officials during the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).

While the BCCI is ready to completely clarify the situation regarding the Ahmedabad franchise, the current perception is that everything has been finalized and the franchise agreement is waiting to be signed. Thus, the new team will be ready to start things off.

It is worth noting that with a bid of Rs 5,625 crore, CVC Capitals had won the bid for the new IPL franchise based in Ahmedabad in October this year. The second team will be the Lucknow franchise, which was bought by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group. Fans of both the teams are waiting to announce the contract of their new players.
