Aussie player Aaron Summers set to make history by playing domestic cricket in Pakistan

Australian fast bowler Aaron Summers will become the first player from his country to play domestic cricket in Pakistan. According to ESPNCricinfo, the right-arm fast bowler will play for Southern Punjab in the upcoming 2021 One-Day Cup.

This is the first time ever that an Australian player will travel to Pakistan and feature in a domestic one-day competition. Many players have started playing in different countries now after the introduction of the T20 leagues. However, this is a different case. The Indian cricket fans can compare this situation to a player from Australia or England playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Aaron Summers played in the Pakistan Super League for the Karachi Kings. He plays domestic cricket in Australia for Tasmania while the Hobart Hurricanes is his home in the Big Bash League.

The rules of the Pakistan Cricket Board allow a maximum of one overseas player per team in their domestic event. This time, Southern Punjab will have Aaron Summers in the team.

The Australian borders are closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Aaron Summers has received exemption to travel to Pakistan.

In case you didn’t know, Aaron Summers has been playing domestic cricket since 2017. He has played 3 List A matches and 3 T20 matches in his career so far. His right-arm pace has helped him take one wicket in three List A matches. Unfortunately, he has been wicket-less in the T20 format so far.

Recently, Aaron was playing cricket for South Australia 2nd XI. As mentioned ahead, he played in the PSL 2019 for the Karachi Kings. In the two games which he featured in, Summers could not take a single wicket.

It will be interesting to see how this signing proves out to be. Southern Punjab players will be excited to share dressing room with an Aussie.
