BCCI Planning to Delay IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Indian Premier League IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Mega Auction is likely to be delayed by a couple of days further as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still working on a issue with the Ahemdabad franchise's owners.

During the team auction that was held last year, CVC Capitals had won the bidding for the Ahmedabad franchise, while RPSG Group had won the bid for Lucknow franchise. However, after that, news broke out that the American company CVC Capitals have investment in some betting companies.

The BCCI had appointed a committee to look after this matter. The committee gave BCCI the green signal, but it seems there is still some issues that needs sorting before they are given the green signal to approach players.

And now, according to multiple reports, due to the issue between both the parties, the IPL 2022 Mega Auction is again likely to be delayed. It was intially likely to take place early January, but was delayed till February for the same reason, and now it seems that it is set to be delayed again. Reports say that the BCCI wants to give both the new teams atleast 15 days time to sign a maximum of three players.

BCCI Planning to Hold Entire IPL in India

Other than that, the BCCI is currently busy in chalk out a backup plan if the COVID-19 plays the spoilsport again. The BCCI had to postpone the IPL last year midway through and held the remaining of the competition in UAE.

However, this time the BCCI wants to conduct the entire competition in India itself. According to reports, BCCI is thinking of conducting the entire competition in Mumbai as a backup method, states a report on Cricbuzz.

It further quotes a source as saying that if needed, the tournament will start in advance than what normally it is scheduled for, i.e. the tournament might begin from March end instead of April start, just to make sure that there as few double-headers as possible.
