Virat Kohli on verge of achieving a number of big T20 records in KKR Clash at Eden Gardens
Royal Challengers Bangalore is all set to face the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, Eden Gardens, on Thursday in their second game of the season. Both teams had contrasting performances in their opening games. KKR lost a rain-affected match against Punjab Kings by 7 wickets.
On the other hand, RCB had a brilliant win over Mumbai Indians in their first game, winning by 8 wickets with 22 balls to spare. Not just a win, RCB also had two excellent batting performances from skipper Faf du Plessis and former skipper Virat Kohli.
Du Plessis made a 43-ball 73, while Kohli remained unbeaten till the very end and made 82 not out from 49 balls. With Kohli coming back into form, he is looking to make the most of it, and with a game against KKR at Eden Gardens, he will be looking to break and achieve some new T20I records.
All eyes will be on the former RCB skipper when he takes on the KKR bowling attack. Kohli was seen attacking Jofra Archer in the last match to put pressure on MI. And if he goes with the same plan, he will be taking on KKR pacers straight away. With that, he will also achieve some big milestones.
Kohli is a brilliant fielder all around the ground and needs six catches more to complete 100 catches in the IPL. Suresh Raina (109), Kieron Pollard (103), and Rohit Sharma (97) are only ahead of him. Meanwhile, it will be his 225th appearance in the IPL for RCB, which is a record in itself.
Furthermore, Kohli needs 92 more runs to reach 11,500 runs in T20 cricket. He is currently fourth on the list of all-time leading run scorers in the shorter format with 11408 runs in 361 games, including six centuries and 86 half-centuries. Chris Gayle (14562), Shoaub Malik (12528), and Kieron Pollard (12175) are ahead of him.
The former RCB skipper has an impressive strike rate of 175 against Umesh Yadav, who is the leader of the KKR pace attack. Kohli needs 29 more runs to reach 500 at Eden Gardens.
