Former West Indies cricket team captain Brian Lara recently opined that the Sunrisers Hyderabad team could build a new squad next year with one of the overseas stars of their current team.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad team had a forgettable outing in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League, the Hyderabad-based franchise finished last in the points table.

Also, it is very rare to see a team using three different captains in a single Indian Premier League season, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad team did that by using David Warner first and then Kane Williamson. Unfortunately, Williamson missed the last match due to injury, and then Manish Pandey made a return to the team to lead the squad against the Mumbai Indians.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad had won only a solitary game against the Punjab Kings during the first phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. In the second phase of the tournament hosted by the United Arab Emirates, Sunrisers added two more wins to their name by defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Rajasthan Royals.

Brian Lara wants Sunrisers Hyderabad to build a side around Jason Holder

Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder was one of the top performers for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. He played eight matches for the team, scoring 85 runs and picking up 16 wickets. Lara felt SRH could try to keep his services but not as a captain.

“Jason Holder is the shining light in a disastrous season. I’m not sure if he is an out and out T20 player, but I feel they can build a team around him. Its always great to have a local player to lead the side because you only have four selections in the playing XI and you are carrying the captain in that,” Lara said to cricket.com.
