Former West Indies cricket team captain Brian Lara has opined that the Royal Challengers Bangalore should let go of their South African star AB de Villiers because he is not in good form, does not play cricket regularly and also  will turn 38 years old soon.

In an interview with cricket.com, Brain Lara was asked to name the three players that the Royal Challengers Bangalore could retain ahead of the mega auction in the year 2022. Interestingly, he picked Glenn Maxwell and Devdutt Padikkal along with Virat Kohli.

After selecting Kohli as the first player, Lara added:

“You have to go for people that you actually feel if put them on the market you can get those back. I would go with Glenn Maxwell as the second choice as someone who I will retain, and also maybe a player like Padikkal.”

The host then asked why he would not keep the services of AB de Villiers to which Brian Lara replied:

"Why would you want to retain AB de Villiers if he is not scoring runs and not getting any younger.”

AB de Villiers has been a part of the RCB squad for over a decade now

Many fans would know that the former South African cricket team captain AB de Villiers initially played for the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League. The Delhi-based franchise released him before the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him next and then always retained him. AB de Villiers has been a match-winner for the RCB franchise. In more than ten years, he just had one rough phase which happened during the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

It will be interesting to see if the choices made by Brian Lara prove to be accurate or not.
