"Gave Me Sleepless Nights As KKR Captain"- Gautam Gambhir reveals the best "IPL Captain," leaving out MS Dhoni
The Indian Premier League is the world's most prominent franchise cricket tournament. It made its first appearance way back in 2008 and was one of a kind when it came into existence. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are the two most successful franchise in this competition.
Meanwhile, there has always been a question about which team is better between MI and CSK. Both teams have been the best in their own right. MI has won five IPL titles, while CSK has won two. Apart from the IPL, both teams have won two Champions League Twenty20 championships each.
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is also one of the three IPL captains and has led his IPL franchise to victories twice. Gambhir led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL wins in 2012 and 2014. However, Gambhir said that when he was the KKR captain, one opposition captain gave him sleepless nights.
The former opener is a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. On Sunday, during the commentary, he was asked to pick the most successful captains between MS Dhoni (CSK) and Rohit Sharma (MI).
To which he replied, "The only captain who gave me sleepless nights was Rohit Sharma. I didn't need to make plans for anyone else, nor did I think much about others."
Gambhir led KKR for seven consecutive seasons. He was also asked who the two players would be that he wanted to pick for his team. Gambhir named Rohit and Yuvraj Singh and said that he doesn't need anyone else in his team and that these two players are enough to win the game.
Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, respectively. MI's records in the final under him are just extraordinary. He has led them to six finals and won five of them, which speaks volumes about his leadership.
