"The only person to reach out to me was MSD..."- Virat Kohli reveals Dhoni's support he got during his difficult time

Not long ago, former Indian captain Virat Kohli was going through a rough patch. He was finding it hard to score runs and hasn't scored an international century for almost three years. During that time, he also lost his ODI captaincy, while stepping down as captain in T20Is and Tests.

Many former cricketers, experts, and analysts questioned his place in the team. Some also said that Virat should be dropped and other youngsters should get their chances. However, there was only one man to approach Virat during his hard time.

That's what the former Indian captain has revealed most recently in an interaction on the RCB podcast. Everyone knows that Virat and MS Dhoni shared a really strong bond with each other. When MSD was the captain of India, he backed young Virat and was one of the prime reasons for Virat's success.

However, Virat has shown some great form in recent times. In the last 6-7 months, his numbers in limited over cricket have been particularly impressive. It all began during the 2022 Asia Cup, when he hit his long-awaited 71st international century against Afghanistan.

Then, he carried his form to the 2022 T20 World Cup and scored the most runs. He is now in a great frame of mind, but before the Asia Cup, it was not the same for him. He recently opened up about his rough patch and who supported him during his tough times.

Virat said, "What is interesting is that throughout this phase apart from Anushka, things that I have gone through, the kind of things that have happened…the only person who, apart from my childhood coach and family…genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni."

He added that it is very difficult to contact MSD because he rarely uses the phone. Virat also revealed the message he got from MSD, "when you are expected to be strong and are looked at as a strong individual people forget to ask how are you doing?"

The 34-year-old was a team member of the former Indian captain for 11 years, from his debut in 2008 to 2019. Virat also admitted that he was looking for someone who was confident and had gone through a difficult time, and that message from MSD helped him a lot.
