"When you don't score runs in India"- Sourav Ganguly responds to India BCCI removing KL Rahul from vice-captaincy

Team India has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with wins in the first two tests. The hosts dominated the visitors in both games and registered convincing wins. Australia couldn't tackle the Indian spinners and faltered badly. However, despite wins in the first two games, India had a few areas to address.

The biggest debate ahead of the third test is over KL Rahul's place or whether Shubman Gill will replace him. Rahul hasn't had a great series and has scored 20, 17 and 1 in his three outings so far.

As a result, the Indian management has removed him from the vice-captaincy role for the remaining two games. However, former BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly has shared his blunt opinion on Rahul being stripped of the vice captaincy role. In an interview with PTI, Ganguly said that when an Indian player finds it hard to score runs at home, then the criticism is totally fair.

He said, "When you don't score runs in India, obviously you will get flak. KL Rahul hasn't been the only one. There have been players in the past also. He has performed but obviously you expect a lot more from a top order batter playing for India because the standards set by others are so high. When you fail for a while, obviously there will be criticism."

The former BCCI chairman is now part of the Delhi Capitals setup as head of director. However, Ganguly also said that Rahul will bounce back whenever he gets the opportunity. He reckons that Gill might have to wait for his chance, and India might persist with Rahul.

India will square off in the third test against Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on March 1. India is on the verge of qualifying for the final of the ongoing World Test Championship 2021-23. They need one win in their remaining two games to secure their place.
