3 players who can replace injured Shreyas Iyer in KKR Camp for IPL 2023

The start of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is around the corner. The mega-event will get started on March 31 with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. All the IPL teams are gearing up for the marquee event, but a few teams looked concerned because of the injuries to their key players.

One such team is the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR suffered a big blow when skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the entire season. Some media reports confirmed that Iyer will not take part in the IPL 2023 due to his back injury and will take another 3–6 months to recover. Thus, KKR is left with no choice but to look for an ideal replacement. So here we will talk about three players who can replace the injured Shreyas Iyer for KKR.

1. Karun Nair

Karun Nair made his IPL debut in 2013 for RCB, and since then, he has been a regular feature in the league. He played the 2022 season for RR, which played the final, but later he was released by the franchise. Nair didn't get any buyers and went unsold with a base price of INR 50 lakh in the 2023 IPL Auction. He is a decent middle-order batter and has enough experience under his belt to replace Iyer. He has scored 1496 runs at 23.75 in 68 innings with 10 half-centuries.

2. Priyam Garg

KKR has invested a lot in the uncapped young Indian talents. Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Venkatesh Iyer were the prime examples of that. Thus, if the franchise is looking for such young Indian talent, then Priyam Garg can be a better option. The 23-year-old all-rounder from Meerut, U.P., made his IPL debut in 2020 for Sunrisers Hyderabad and played until 2022. He was released later and went unsold at his base price of INR 20 lakh. Garg is a good middle-order batter and can also bowl some useful overs. He has scored 251 runs in 17 innings at 15.69, with 51 not out as his best.

3. Baba Indrajith

Another great option that the franchise can look for is their former player Baba Indrajith, who was part of the KKR setup in 2022 but was released by the franchise. He played three games but didn't get many runs. But he is a great option at the top of the order like Iyer. Indrajith has also scored heavy runs in the domestic circuit and can be ideal to play now.
