Sri Lankan Dangerous All-rounder replaced injured Kane Williamson in Gujarat Titans for IPL 2023

The defending champion Gujarat Titans have started the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League in great fashion with two back-to-back wins in their first two games. They beat the Chennai Super Kings in their opening encounter and followed it up with a clinical win over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.

As a result, GT is at the top of the table with four points. Though, these are early days in the tournament, Hardik Pandya and his men have shown the full intent of defending their title.

On top of that, to make their team strong, they have added a big name to their lineup. Notably, the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson got injured in the first game against CSK while trying to stop a ball from going over the boundary line for six. In order to do that, he injured his right leg and was taken off the field right away.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the franchise announced his replacement on the team. They have added Sri Lankan white ball skipper Dasun Shanaka to their team, which could prove to be a game-changer for their team with his all-round ability.

Shanaka made an impact when Sri Lanka came to India for three T20Is and three ODIs a few months ago. He scored 124 runs in three T20Is at a strike rate of 187 and an average of 62, while scoring 121 runs in ODIs, including a brilliant century in the first game.

But he went unsold in the 2023 IPL auction. Hence, the Gujarat Titans have signed the Sri Lankan skipper for his base price of INR 50 lakh. Meanwhile, Williamson flew to New Zealand for his further surgery. So far, Gujarat has done a remarkable job in the ongoing IPL edition. They have started off where they left off in 2022 and are among the favourites to win this edition.
