RCB signed veteran South African pacer as Reece Topley's replacement for IPL 2023 after humiliating loss vs KKR

Royal Challengers Bangalore has been suffering from various issues in the last few days. They started the 16th edition with a spectacular win over the Mumbai Indians in their first game, but suffered an injury to English pacer Reece Topley during the game that ruled him out of the entire season.

Topley injured his right shoulder in an attempt to stop a ball on the field. He was seen in pain and taken off the ground right away. Later, the franchise confirmed that he would not be part of the IPL 2023 any more and had flown back to England for his medical attention.

Notably, Josh Hazlewood hasn't joined the team yet, as he is still recovering from his injury. In that case, the franchise announced Topley's replacement on Friday and signed veteran South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell for this season.

Parnell has been part of a couple of teams in the Indian Premier League previously. He made his IPL debut in 2010 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and then played for Pune Warriors India from 2011 to 2013 before rejoining Delhi in 2014. But since then, he hasn't been part of the league.

He will make his IPL comeback after almost a decade with RCB in 2023. In his IPL career, he has taken 26 wickets in the same number of matches at a decent economy rate of 7.35. But his international form for South Africa may have caught the attention of the RCB.

He will join the team later this week. Meanwhile, RCB suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of KKR on Thursday by 81 runs, which has dropped them to 7th place on the table. David Willey replaced Topley in the squad and picked up 2/16 in his four overs, including a maiden in the powerplay.

He also scored an unbeaten 20 runs with the bat. RCB will now face Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, April 10 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. They would like to forget the KKR loss and move on to the next game and try to win it to get two extra points.
