"No fielding, no scoring, gets out on golden duck.."- Sunil Gavaskar slammed CSK and Ambati Rayudu for "Impact Player" failure vs RR
After three consecutive wins, the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings suffered a loss on Thursday. It was Rajasthan Royals that beat them at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Notably, both teams played one game earlier this season, which was also won by RR.
Thus, it was the second win for Sanju Samson and his men over CSK in the IPL 2023. With this win, RR has moved up to the top of the points table with 10 points, while CSK has slipped to third place. It was yet another game where a team scored over 200 runs, batting first in the 20 overs.
Samson won the toss and elected to back his batters. RR had a good start, with both openers adding 86 runs for the first wicket. Jos Buttler couldn't get going and got out for a 21-ball 27. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a good inning of 77 off 43.
He smashed the CSK bowlers to all parts. As a result, Rajasthan scored a big total of 202/5. It needed a good start from the CSK openers, but in-form Devon Conway (8 off 16) got out cheaply. Ajinkya Rahane also struggled with a 13-ball 15.
Ambati Rayudu came to bat as an "imapct sub" but got out for a golden duck, which dented CSK's chance for the chase. Notably, Rayudu has not been in a great nick this season and has only scored 83 runs so far at 16.6. Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who was on air, slammed CSK's move to send Rayudu as an "impact sub."
He said, "You got to the field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck."
Shivam Dube looked good and made 52 off 33, but that wasn't enough. Chennai reached 170/6 and lost the game by 32 runs, which is their biggest defeat this season. They will face the Punjab Kings in their next game on Sunday at home.
