"Rohit and Dravid made them clear...."- Dinesh Karthik on India's strange tactic of not playing Chahal in T20 WC

India ended the T20 World Cup 2022 with a horrible defeat. A team could never imagine, even in their dreams, that despite scoring almost 170 runs, they would lose by 10 wickets in a T20 game. However, it happened with "The Men in Blue," which gathered a lot of criticism.

Many former cricketers and experts questioned India's approach and also asked about the terrible bowling plan. Some also pointed out that the veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not picked in the game against England in the semi-final, when the English leg-spinner bowled a terrific spell on the turning wicket at Adelaine Oval.

In the 2021 T20 World Cup as well, India didn't pick him in the team, while this time they did, but he only warmed the bench in the entire tournament. He, along with Harshal Patel, were the only two Indian players that didn't get a game in the 2022 T20 WC.

As a result, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, and head coach, Rahul Dravid, faced a lot of criticism after the semi-final loss for not picking Chahal in the team. However, veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who was part of the WC team, has made a blunt revelation about that decision.

Almost all of India's games were played with Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel in the lineup. Many former players did urge during the competition that India should give Chahal at least a game. However, DK revealed that both Harshal and Chahal were informed earlier about the decision.

Karthik, who is part of the commentary panel for the ongoing Indian white-ball tour of New Zealand, said on Cricbuzz that they were told earlier and that the message from Rohit and Dravid was very clear to Harshal and Chahal.

Karthik said, "They didn't sulk once or get upset once because they were very sure. At the start of the tournament they were said that under these conditions we would be playing you otherwise it might be hard. So they were very aware and were preparing in such a way."

Furthermore, DK said that both were ready to give their all when the opportunity came, and that is how they were learning and practicing. Speaking of Chahal, DK said that he is an experienced player and knows the feeling of being dropped. Both of these bowlers are also part of the Indian team for the three T20Is against New Zealand.
