Mehidy Hasan Miraz registers a unique record with a blistering century vs IND in 2nd ODI

After helping Bangladesh beat India in the first ODI with a thrilling finish on Sunday, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has continued his strong form in the second ODI game against India at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, in Dhaka, as well.

Once again, he came out to bat when Bangladesh were having a difficult time, and he rescued them with a brilliant century. Miraz came out to bat at 69/6 in 18.6 overs when the Indian bowlers were dominating the game. But he just changed the whole scenario.

He, along with former skipper Mahmudullah, added a match-changing partnership of 148 runs for the seventh wicket to take the hosts past the 200-run mark, which looked impossible at one point. Mahmudullah played a vital innings of 77 runs off 96 balls, with seven boundaries.

Then, for the eighth wicket, Miraz added 54 runs in 23 balls, with Nasum Ahmed (18 off 11) assisting Bangladesh to a competitive total of 271/7 in their first innings. It was a brilliant recovery for the hosts, led by Miraz, from 69/6.

He also brought up his first ODI century off the very last ball of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 100 off just 83 balls, with 8 fours and 4 sixes. During this century, he has also registered his name for a unique record.

This is only the second time in the history of the game that a batter scored a century at No. 8 or lower. Earlier, the Irish batter Simi Singh scored an unbeaten 100 against South Africa in 2021, batting at No. 8.

Miraz's 100 not out is also the joint-highest score by a batter at No. 8 or below. Earlier, he and Mustafizur Rahman shared a match-winning 51-run partnership in the first ODI to help Bangladesh chase down the target with only one wicket remaining. Bangladesh will eye to win this game to register their second successive ODI series win against India at home.
