"Make a name like Virat"- Dinesh Karthik names an Indian star who can become next Virat Kohli

The ongoing three-match series hasn't gone well for the visitors so far. They have lost both of their opening games and have also lost the series with one match to play. The third and final ODI will kick off on Saturday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Despite losing the series already, India would like to avoid the whitewash and win the third game. For that, the Indian batting needs to step up, especially the top order, which has failed in both games. Only Shreyas Iyer has shown some form in both games.

He also played a knock of 82 runs in the second ODI but couldn't finish the game for India. Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik lauded the efforts of the 28-year-old and also said that Rohit Sharma has also earned a lot of respect after he came out to bat with an injured thumb.

However, before Rohit's incredible effort, it was Iyer who was the lone savior, along with Axar Patel (56). In a discussion with Cricbuzz, DK said that Iyer has been doing well for India in ODIs in 2022 and has completed 700+ runs.

He added that the 28-year-old is a brilliant batter against spin and also plays short balls well. DK also stated that Iyer needs to be consistent and finish games like Virat Kohli does for India.

DK said, "He almost took India to a place where - I think it was safe but if you want to make your name as a player, you want to make a name like what Virat Kohli has done over the years, these are the games that you wanna be 120-130 not out, that is a big difference."

Notably, Iyer is the leading run-scorer for India in one-day internationals in 2022. He has scored 720 runs in just 16 games. He is also the highest run-scorer among all test-playing nations. Furthermore, DK said that Iyer needs to focus more on finishing the games instead of making 70s and 80s. Because when you finish the game, only then you start fears the opposition.
