As per the reports, a total of 991 players from across the globe registered themselves for the IPL 2023 auction. However, the IPL's governing committee has finalised 405 players to go under the hammer in the upcoming auction.
The franchises asked the governing body to add 36 more players to the list, bringing the total to 405 cricketers. Out of these 273 players, 273 are from India, while a total of 132 overseas players have been shortlisted to feature in the auction.
This list includes 119 capped players and 282 uncapped stars who have been added. Among the 132 overseas stars, there are 27 players from England, including the likes of Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Sam Curran. Australia has 21 stars on this list, including hard-hitting all-rounder Cameron Green.
There are 22 cricketers from South Africa, 20 from West Indies, 10 from New Zealand, and 8 from Afghanistan. However, only 87 out of 405 cricketers will be selected by teams in the upcoming auction, of whom 30 will be overseas stars.
The highest base price is set to be INR 2 crore, which has 19 overseas players in it. For the base price of INR 1.5 crore, there are a total of 11 players. The INR 1 crore bracket has 20 players, including Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal.
As usual, all-rounders will be in high demand in the auction. The likes of Stokes, Green, and Curran could end up becoming the highest-paid cricketers in the upcoming auction. Mayank Agarwal and Joe Root will start the auction as their names are listed in the first set of lots. The mini auction will take place on December 23 at 2:30 p.m. IST.
