Jasprit Bumrah makes his return to Team India; BCCI includes him in ODI Squad vs SL

India is all set to square off with Sri Lanka in three T20Is starting on January 3 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After the series, both teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series starting on January 10.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) added ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah to the ODI squad. The pacer will make his comeback to international cricket after a break of almost four months. He played his last international match against Australia in September.

Later, he was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a stress fracture in his back. His return will surely strengthen the bowling lineup, which was lacking with the Indian team in the past few months. However, it will be interesting to see how he will be used amid all his fitness issues.

India is set to prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup at home in October and November, and Bumrah is a key player for India going forward. The BCCI announced Bumrah's inclusion just two days after the announcement of new fitness measures for the Indian players.

The BCCI said in a press release that "Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon."

However, the biggest question will be how Bumrah will be utilised in the jam-packed schedule of the Indian Premier League. Bumrah has been a vital part of the five-time champion Mumbai Indians over the years. Notably, the board discussed the workload management of the players in the BCCI Review Meeting held on January 1 in Mumbai.

Updated ODI squad for Sri Lanka:Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh.
