Virat Kohli on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's "all-time" record in Sri Lanka ODIs

Team India will take on Sri Lanka in the first game of the three-match ODI series on Tuesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. And the ODI series will see the return of Indian senior players. Skipper Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohl and KL Rahul will be back in the squad.

Virat will also be back after a short break from the game after the conclusion of the test series against Bangladesh last month. However, the former Indian skipper will be eying to break a number of amazing records on his return to the game on Tuesday.

Virat is on the cusp of breaking an "all-time" record set by his idol, Sachin Tendulkar. The 34-year-old is probably the best batter in the 50-over format in the last decade. He is coming off a century in the last ODI he played against Bangladesh. He would like to start from where he left off against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Sachin needs no introduction. He dominated the world of cricket for over two decades, and you will find his name at the top of almost all the batting records in the game. However, there is a chance that Virat Kohli's blade will break a few records as well.

Sachin holds the record for most one-day international centuries (20) scored at home in ODIs. Virat (19) is just one hundred behind. If he scores two hundreds in the series against Sri Lanka, he will go past Sachin's record.

On the other hand, both Virat and Sachin have eight ODI centuries against Sri Lanka, which is the most by any batter against Sri Lanka in the 50-over format. Although the record for most ODI centuries against a single team is jointly held by Virat and Sachin, it is against the West Indies and Australia, for a total of nine centuries.

One more century against Sri Lanka will help Virat surpass Sachin for most ODI hundreds against Sri Lanka, while two centuries will help the former Indian skipper set a world record of 10 ODI hundreds against the neighbours, which no one has ever achieved.
