"I actually asked for Jersey No. 23, but....."- Ishan Kishan revealed an interesting story behind his Indian Jersey No. 32
Ishan Kishan is one of the emerging talents of the Indian team who has risen through the ranks. He has been among the future stars of Team India, which will take Indian cricket forward. In his short career, he has already proven himself as a matchwinner.
He wears the Indian jersey number 32, and an Indian jersey is certainly the biggest dream for any young cricketer who takes up this sport. However, the jersey number 32 wasn't Ishan's first choice. The left-hander asked for a different jersey number, but he couldn't get it because it was already taken by another Indian player.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a video clip on their social media handle featuring Ishan Kishan. In the video, he was seen narrating the story about how he chose his current jersey number with the help of his mother.
Ishan said, "I actually asked for Number 23 but Kuldeep Yadav already got that number. So, I was supposed to take any other number. I called my mom and she asked me to get 32. So, I didn’t ask any other question and went for it."
Furthermore, the left-hander also spoke about his idol, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Notably, both MSD and Ishan came from the same state, Jharkhand, and have represented it at the domestic level. He said that he idolises MSD and wants to fill his shoes to win games for Team India.
Ishan recently scored the fastest ODI double century in December 2022 against Bangladesh off 128 balls. Although he was not part of the Sri Lanka ODIs at home. He did appear in the ODI home series against New Zealand, but he batted in the middle order. Meanwhile, he will open the innings against New Zealand in the upcoming T20I series, which will start on Friday in Ranchi.
