Pakistan were the favorites to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, but their campaign ended in the semifinals stage yesterday in Dubai when Australia defeated them by five wickets.

The Pakistan cricket team received an invitation to bat first from Australian skipper Aaron Finch. The Men in Green started well as the duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched up an opening partnership of 71 runs in ten overs.

Azam lost his wicket to Adam Zampa but Rizwan held one end and then Fakhar Zaman attacked the Australian bowlers. Both Rizwan and Zaman completed their respective half-centuries and guided the Pakistan cricket team to a score of 176 runs.

Mitchell Starc bagged two wickets for Australia in the first innings, while Zampa and Pat Cummins took a wicket each.

Chasing 177 for a place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Final, Australia lost their captain Aaron Finch in the first over itself. David Warner then scored 49 runs off 30 deliveries, but a four-wicket haul from Shadab Khan reduced Australia to 96/5.

Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade then joined hands to destroy the Pakistan bowling attack. Wade aggregated 41 runs from 17 deliveries, while Stoinis scored 40 runs from 31 balls. Eventually, Australia won by five wickets with one over to spare.

Shadab Khan apologized to Pakistan cricket team’s fans after the team lost to Australia
