IPL franchise Delhi Capitals made a huge announcement today morning. The Delhi-based franchise have officially announced the replacement of their English all-rounder Chris Woakes. In case you didn’t know, Woakes pulled out of IPL 2021 before the Phase 2 of the competition got underway.

The Delhi Capitals already have three fast bowlers in their overseas department. They are IPL 2020 Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada, his compatriot Anrich Nortje and England all-rounder Tom Curran. Apart from that, they also have two experienced Indian fast bowlers in Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma.

Delhi did not use Nortje and Yadav during the first phase of IPL 2021 which was held in India. They decided to use Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Chris Woakes and Tom Curran in their pace attack.

The pace-bowling attack of the IPL 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals performed well in the first phase of IPL 2021. They were one of the main reasons why the Delhi Capitals attained the number one position on the points table when the IPL 2021 season was suspended.

Who is the replacement of Chris Woakes?

As mentioned ahead, Chris Woakes, who played for the Delhi Capitals in the first phase of IPL 2021, had pulled out of the remaining matches. So, in the vacant overseas spot, the Capitals have decided to sign an Australian player.

Since Woakes is a fast bowler, the Delhi Capitals have roped in a fast bowler in the form of Ben Dwarshuis. Announcing the replacement, DC wrote:

“Delhi Capitals today announced that English all-rounder Chris Woakes, who picked up 5 wickets in 3 matches in the first half of the VIVO IPL 2021, has pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons. The Delhi Capitals have announced Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes' replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season.”
