Delhi Capitals Predicted XI Without Shreyas Iyer For IPL 2021

Delhi Capitals captain and star batsman Shreyas Iyer will miss a part of IPL 2021 due to an injury. During the first ODI between India and England, the middle-order batsman dislocated his shoulder while fielding. Iyer was then ruled out of the series and is said to need at least six weeks of recovery time.

This means that Delhi Capitals will miss the services of their captain. Iyer had led the franchise to the finals last season, and there were huge hopes for the outfit in IPL 2021. However, with the Mumbaikar not available for the first half, the Delhi squad could have some trouble in the batting line-up. In this article, we talk about the predicted XI of DC without Iyer.

Openers: Shikhar Dhawan (C) and Prithvi Shaw

The opening combination will remain the same for the most part of the campaign. At times when Iyer was not on the field last season, it was Dhawan who captained the team. Hence, it is likely that he will lead the franchise in the absence of the cricketer.

Prithvi Shaw is in red-hot form and will have aspirations to be one of the highest run-getters of IPL 2021. For the player as well, to make a return to the Indian Team, he must be at his best next season.

Middle-Order: Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (WK) and Shimron Hetmyer

Shreyas Iyer would have played at No.3 for Delhi Capitals. With him not in the squad, Ajinkya Rahane is a sure-shot inclusion in the XI. With Rahane in the squad, DC might release Shaw to be fearless and increase the run-rate.

At No.4, we have Rishabh Pant, who is back to form, and will be the squad's most important batsman. With Rahane in the XI, Steve Smith might find it hard to find a place. Therefore, Shimron Hetmyer will play at No.5, a suitable slot for his style.

All-Rounders: Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel

Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel will belong to the all-rounders' group of this XI. While Stoinis' primary responsibility would be to support the batting line-up, Axar has to come up with four good overs of off-spin every single game. That said, the players will have to do an important job with the other skills also. Stoinis could also be asked to open the bowling while Axar could become crucial with the bat if the game goes down to the wire.

Bowlers: Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma

In the bowling department, we have Ravichandran Ashwin and Kagiso Rabada as the leaders. Both these players can also lend a hand to the batting unit if needed. While Ashwin will target a comeback to the T20 squad with some fine displays, Rabada could look for some practice on the Indian pitches before the World Cup.

Anrich Nortje was brilliant last season and will continue to hold his spot in the XI. DC have intelligently included Chris Woakes and Tom Curran as his backups. While Ishant Sharma will be the first-choice domestic pacer, Umesh Yadav and Avesh Khan are the other options. If the track assists spin, Amit Mishra will come into the picture.
