Explained: Here's why England have not yet qualified for T20 WC 2021 semifinals

England

The Pakistan cricket team completed its fourth victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 earlier tonight against the Namibian cricket team. Earlier in the Super 12 stage of the tournament, the Pakistan cricket team had recorded wins against the Indian cricket team, the New Zealand cricket team and the Afghanistan cricket team.

After registering their fourth win in four matches, the Pakistan cricket team has become the first one to qualify for the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Many fans believed that the Pakistan cricket team was the first from their group, but the same is not true.

Even the England cricket team has won four out of four matches in Group 1. However, because of the other results in that group, England is 99% confirmed for a place in the semifinals but not 100% yet.

How can England still be eliminated from ICC T20 World Cup 2021 before the semifinals?

In a highly unlikely scenario, if Australia manages to defeat Bangladesh and West Indies by big margins, and South Africa crush England in their last match, all three teams will have four points in the Group 1 points table, and then the two semi finalists will be decided by net run rate.

In case the Australian side wins its remaining two games by solid margins and South Africa absolutely crush England then and only then there is a chance. However, looking at how England have played in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, the chances of their early elimination are negligible.

In fact, England can well beat the South African cricket team and advance to the semifinals with a 100% winning record. Still, there is a mathematical chance, and because of that, England have not got the qualification yet. It will be interesting to see where England finish on the points table.
