After Shreyas Iyer, another Injury Scare in KKR camp; Indian star sustained an ankle injury during batting practise

The biggest cricket carnival in the world is about to get underway in one week's time. The next edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to start on Friday, March 31, with Chennai Super Kings taking on the defending champion Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Almost all the players have joined their respective teams and are sweating hard for the coming season. But some teams are struggling with players who have injuries. The two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders already suffered a big blow when skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the upcoming season due to a back injury.

But now there is another injury scare for the Men in Purple and Gold. Veteran Indian batter Nitish Rana, who was a possible captaincy candidate in the absence of Iyer, has been hit on his left ankle during the batting sessions at the nets at the Eden Gardens.

It might cost KKR a lot, as apart from Iyer, the Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson is also doubtful for the entire 2023 season. As per the report by Sportskeeda, Rana was hit by a ball during throwdown sessions. The 29-year-old practised in two different nets earlier, facing spinners and net bowlers.

But when he came to the third net to face the throwdown, he was hit by the ball. The media report suggests that the Southpaw lay on the ground for at least five minutes, and the support staff rushed to him to check. He left the practise in between and sat on the other side of the ground.

He was seen in extreme pain. However, the franchise would hope that there would not be any serious injuries because another injury would certainly shatter KKR's chances in the coming season. Kolkata will open their season with a game against the Punjab Kings on April 1 at PCA Stadium in Mohali.
