"It shouldn't go to a stage where Dhoni gets banned"- Virender Sehwag's stern warning to CSK Bowlers for IPL 2023
The four-time champion Chennai Super Kings have moved to third place on the points table after a thrilling victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in a Southern Derby clash on Monday. CSK has now won three games out of five and has six points with a NRR of +0.256.
Although almost everything is looking good for CSK, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has sent a stern warning to Chennai and its bowlers. He has advised them to put a control on bowling extras as CSK bowlers have conceded a lot of wides and no balls.
This problem is not just for one match; in fact, MS Dhoni himself talked about it in the first game against the Gujarat Titans. Bowling so many extras has resulted in not being able to finish the overs in the given time. Sehwag reckons that all this can lead to a ban for the CSK skipper.
In a latest interaction with Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, "Dhoni was not looking happy. CSK had bowled two-three overs of extra and against RCB, they bowled another extra over. It shouldn't go to a stage where Dhoni gets banned and CSK has to take the field without their captain."
Furthermore, the former opener pointed out that Dhoni has already been nursing a knee injury and might play only limited games, but if the bowlers will keep on bowling so many extras, he will have to sit out and take rest.
Sehwag also added that CSK will have to be precise with their bowling performances because injuries have left them with very limited resources. CSK won a high-scoring game on Monday against RCB. Batting first, CSK made a big score of 226/6 in the first inning with half-centuries from Devon Conway (83 off 45) and Shivam Dube (52 off 27). In reply, RCB made 218/8 and fell short by 8 runs.
