Mumbai Indians announce captains for their Global Teams (MI Cape Town and MI Emirates): Check complete details
The Indian Premier League has established itself as the biggest cricket league in the world and is also among the top sports leagues on the planet. And it is not just restricted to the IPL; all the IPL franchises have also become global sporting brands now.
One of the most successful franchises, the Mumbai Indians, have taken some giant steps and have already purchased two new teams in the two new T20 leagues to be introduced in South Africa and the UAE.
And on Friday, MI Global revealed their two players, who will lead the MI Emirates and MI Cape Town sides in their respective leagues. Notably, MI released veteran West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, but for MI Emirates, they have appointed him as the captain.
He will be leading the MI franchise team in the UAE T20 league, which will take place at the start of 2023. On the other hand, the franchise has picked Afghanistan superstar Rashid Khan as the captain for MI Cape Town in the CSA T20 league in South Africa.
Both of these teams will make their debuts in their respective leagues. These two teams have some of the biggest names in the game and will try to repeat the success of MI, which they had in the Indian Premier League.
MI Emirates, led by Kieron Pollard, has some T20 stars like Dwayne Bravo, Trent Boult, Nicholas Pooran, and Imran Tahir in their sides, while MI Cape Town, led by Rashid, will have Kagiso Rabada, Jofra Archer, Dewald Brevis, Rassie van der Dussen, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone.
MI Cape Town will play the season opener for the SA20 on January 10, 2023. MI has established themselves as one of the best T20 franchises in the world in the last 15 years with their record five IPL titles and two Champions League titles. The confirmation of both captains was made in a press release by the franchise.
Akash Ambani said, "We're extremely pleased to announce our captains for our extended MI Global one family for the cricketing season 2023. We have an amazing mix of talent, experience, and passion in both our captains. I'm convinced that Polly and Rashid will take forward the MI ethos and MI brand of cricket."
