"It is impossible in this age"- Rohit Sharma on why players need regular breaks from international cricket amid packed schedule

India will lock horns with Bangladesh in the first game of the three-match ODI series on Sunday at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, to start their next international assignment. This series will have all the seniors back in the team who were rested during the New Zealand tour.

India's schedule until the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup is jam-packed, and it is important to give a proper break to all the players who are on the radar for the upcoming World Cup. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also reckons that it is important to give proper break to all the players.

India has been giving regular rest to players to manage the workload. Ahead of the first ODI on Sunday, Rohit addressed the media and spoke on India's plan for the upcoming schedule.

Notably, there have been a few former cricketers and cricket pundits who have criticized India's strategy to rest several players in the series. Rohit said that due to the amount of cricket played, breaks are required.

He said, "People need to understand that when we give players a break, it is only to manage the workload keeping the bigger picture in mind. You want your best players to play with higher intensity all the time. So it is important to give them breaks. It is impossible in this day and age that you will always play with your best 15."

Rohit also spoke on India's jam-packed schedule in the last few months. He said that India played two consecutive series against Australia and South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup, and it was a continuous two and a half months of cricket, and it is very difficult at this age to maintain the intensity.

Further, he said that he is not thinking too far ahead, and the ODI World Cup is still 10 months away. Rohit also stated that he and Rahul Dravid (the head coach) understand how to use the player and that once the World Cup arrives, we will manage the situation.
