India has been a batting-dominant team across formats. Over the years, it is India's top-order, who used to perform for Team India. However, now that the top order appears to be struggling, India has discovered a really good performer in the middle order.

And he is none other than Shreyas Iyer, who has been exceptional in the 50-over format. He has become India's most prolific ODI run-scorer, particularly in 2022. And with the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup to be played in India, he will surely be a vital member of the Indian team.

Iyer is also the highest run-scorer for India in the ongoing three-match series against Bangladesh. In fact, he scored an important 82 runs. And during his innings, he also broke a big record in Indian cricket.

Iyer has now become the fastest Indian batter to score 1500 runs in One-day internationals. He scored 82 runs off 102 balls with six fours and three sixes in his inning in the second ODI. Although India lost the game in the end by five runs, he has yet again proven his consistency.

In his career so far, Iyer has played 38 games and scored 1534 runs in 34 innings at an average of 49.48 and a strike rate of 96.18. He has also scored two centuries and 14 half-centuries in his career.

Previousely, India's vice-captain KL Rahul held his record, who scored 1500 ODI runs in 36 innings. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan did it in 38 innings in their careers. In 2022, Iyer has played 16 ODIs and scored 721 runs in 14 innings at an average of 60.08, including one century and six half-centuries.

He is also the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket in 2022 across all test-playing nations, while overall he is sixth on the list. Apart from him, Shikhar Dhawan (685 runs in 21 innings) and Shubman Gill (638 runs in 12 innings) are India's leading run scorers in ODIs this year.
