Ishan Kisahn scripts history, breaks Chris Gayle's rare record in ODI cricket

The third and final ODI game between India and Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, has given an incredible ODI knock to the fans. It came from the bat of young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, who played a unbelievable innings to register his name in the record books.

The left-hander smashed the fastest double century and scored 210 runs off just 131 balls, including 24 fours and 10 sixes. He became only the seventh batter to score a ODI double hundred in the history of the game.

On the other hand, he also became the fourth Indian to achieve this feat. Earlier, Rohit Sharma (3), Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar managed to achieve this rare feat.

Notably, Ishan is not a regular player for India, but in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, he got the opportunity. Rohit was hit on his left thumb in the second ODI and was ruled out of the series, which gave the left-hander the chance to feature in the playing XI.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh put India to bat first. Team India didn't have a great start, losing Shikhar Dhawan (3 off 8) early. But after that, Ishan, along with Virat, put on 290 runs for the second wicket. Kohli also brought up his 44th ODI century during the innings.

However, with his double century, Ishan Kishan also broke the record of veteran West Indian opener Chris Gayle for the fastest double century in ODI cricket. Gayle scored his double century off just 138 balls against Zimbabwe in 2015, when he scored 215.

Apart from that, this was the highest score by a visiting batter in Bangladesh in ODI cricket. The previous best was by former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who scored an unbeaten 185 in 2011. Speaking of the series, India is trailing 2-0 in the series and needs this win to avoid a 3-0 whitewash.
