"Puts the cat among the pigeons"- Dinesh Karthik warns Indian veteran openers after Ishan Kishan's incredible double century

India's young opener Ishan Kishan registered a massive world record on Saturday, when he smashed his maiden century in ODI cricket. The left-hander, who joined the team after an injury to India's skipper Rohit Sharma, grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

He scored his maiden ODI ton and made sure that it was memorable. Ishan made the fastest ODI double century in the history off just 126 balls. He ended up scoring 210 runs off 131 balls, which included 24 boundaries and 10 maximums.

He broke the record of the previous holder, Chris Gayle, for the fastest ODI double century off 138 balls, which he made in 2015 against Zimbabwe. India posted a huge total of 409/8, and in reply, Bangladesh got all out for 182 runs in 34 overs, handing India a massive victory of 227 runs.

However, after his double century, many former cricketers and fans lauded the effort of the young opener. Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also praised Ishan for his double hundred. In a discussion on Cricbuzz, Karthik said that this innings will challenge India to choose the opening combination for the team in upcoming games.

DK said that Ishan made the best use of the opportunity he got and played some really good shots. The veteran keeper highlighted that the left-hander made his century off 85 balls and scored his next 100 runs off just 41 balls, which tells the story.

Karthik said, "He batted beautifully, the last 100 coming off 41 balls says a lot. That's the skill, that's why he has been picked by Mumbai Indians at such a high price. He's somebody who is going to deliver. This, in many ways, puts the cat among the pigeons when it comes to the openers."

Ishan became only the fourth Indian batter and seventh overall to score a double century in ODI cricket. For India, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma have already done it. Meanwhile, Rohit has scored three double centuries and has the highest individual score of 264, which he made against Sri Lanka in 2014.
