"If there is ever an opportunity, I will be reaching to Mahi"- SA20 commissioner Greame Smith on MS Dhoni playing in SA20
There are three T20 leagues that are currently being played. One of them is the new franchise-based competition, the South Africa T20 League (SA20). It has gotten a great deal of response so far from the crowd, and the fans are loving it.
SA20 has brought the fans to the ground in South Africa, and there are some big superstars who are taking part in this competition. It started on January 10, and a total of six teams are competing in the tournament. This league has clashed with the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia and another new franchise tournament, the International League T20 (ILT20), in the UAE.
Greame Smith, who is the commissioner of SA20, believes that the league can attract more fans if some Indian players can take part in it and says that it would be really good to have players like MS Dhoni.
In a press conference, Smith said, "Listen it will be amazing to have a player like MS, but we always work with and respect BCCI’s decision. Someone like MS will surely add a lot of value. He has been able to perform for a very long time and he is an extreme professional. So if there is ever an opportunity, I will be reaching to Mahi."
Smith is also hopeful that once MSD retires from all forms of cricket, there will be a chance that he might look for some other leagues. Notably, all six franchises in the SA20 are IPL franchise owners. Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the six teams competing in SA20.
Further, Smith also added that if players like MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh join the league as mentors or in any other role, it will be up to the franchises how they want to utilise them and there will not be any interference from the league's governing council.
