"His shoulder pop out.."- Dinesh Karthik shares a big update on Reece Topley's injury
The 5th game of the Indian Premier League 2023 saw a dominating win by Royal Challengers Bangalore over Mumbai Indians at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB made a mockery of the target set by the five-time champions and displayed a brilliant batting performance.
Batting first, MI managed 171/7 in 20 overs. Tilak Verma was the star with the bat, scoring his third IPL fifty. He made an unbeaten 84 off 46 balls, with four boundaries and nine sixes. But Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 148 runs for the first wicket in the chase.
Du Plessis scored a 32-ball half-century and made 73 off 43, while Virat was unbeaten on 82 off 49 to take RCB over the line. Everything, from the toss, went in RCB's way, and it was a complete performance by the home team. But in the first inning, there was a major concern for them.
It was the freak injury of English pacer Reece Topley, who appeared to sustain a shoulder injury while diving in order to stop a ball. It happened in the 8th over in the first inning. Topley dove to stop the ball but landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
He was seen in severe pain and was taken onto the field right away. He didn't join the team after that. That could be a big threat for RCB, as they are already missing Josh Hazlewood due to fitness issues. However, the status of Topley's injury is not clear yet, but wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik shared an important update on his injury.
In a discussion on Jio Cinema after the win, DK said, "It (shoulder) did pop out, but it went back in. I think he went for a scan during the game itself. He’s not in as much pain as we thought he’d be in. We’ll have to wait and see."
Before the injury, Topley bowled two overs for 14 runs and took the wicket of Cameron Green (5). RCB will now face the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday at the Eden Gardens.
