"I was diving around and...."- Faf du Plessis provides a massive update on his rib injury
Chennai Super Kings registered a thrilling victory last night over Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, in a high-scoring encounter. CSK registered an 8-run victory and jumped to third place on the points table with a NRR of +0.265.
Meanwhile, RCB was in for the chase but lost momentum in between. At one point, they were well ahead of the rate when Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis were going all guns blazing. Du Plessis scored a 23-ball half-century, while Maxwell hit his fifty off 24 balls.
But in the end, RCB fell short. Both batters added a 126-run third wicket stand off just 61 balls. Maxwell made 76 off 36, with three fours and eight sixes, while the RCB skipper scored a 33-ball 62, with four maximums and five boundaries.
The partnership was broken by Maheesh Theekshana, when he dismissed Maxwell on the first ball of the 13th over. Later, Du Plessis also got out to Moeen Ali in the 14th over. That was the moment when CSK came back into the game. Chasing 227 to win, RCB ended at 218/8 and lost the game by 8 runs.
Despite the loss, RCB fans had another big concern, and it was about the fitness of skipper Du Plessis, who was seen with some taping on his ribs, which caused concern among the fans. Although he continued playing, he was seen to be in discomfort. But after the game, Du Plessis shed light on his fitness.
In the post-match presentation, he said, "Early on in the match, I was diving around and I thought I went at it with my rib, that was the cause of discomfort. I lost a little bit of power towards the end, was disappointed as I got stiff"
It was the third loss for RCB in five games this season. They are 7th on the points table with four points and a NRR of -0.318. RCB will now lock horns with Punjab Kings on April 20 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
