Veteran CSK star retires from the IPL, gets bigger role with the CSK

One of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League and a four-time winner, the Chennai Super Kings, made a major announcement on Friday. Notably, CSK made some big decisions ahead of the mini-auction in December, when they released a few of their veterans.

One of the biggest name in that list was former West Indian all-rounder and the bowler who has picked the most wickets in IPL, Dwayne Bravo. The 39-year-old, however, has hung up his boots and announced his retirement from the cash-rich league.

Hence, the franchise has appointed Bravo as their bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2023. He will now do the job of bowling coach in the absence of L Balaji, who has decided to take a break from the 2023 season due to personal reasons.

After getting a new role with the Yellow Army, Bravo looked excited and said that he was looking for such a role aside from playing.  Furthermore, he also thanked the Chennai franchise for all those years and the trust they showed in him in appointing hm for a new role.

Bravo said, "I enjoy working with bowlers and it's a role I'm excited about. From player to coach, I don't think I have to adjust much because while I'm playing, I always work with bowlers and try to come up with plans and ideas on how to have that one step ahead of the batsmen. The only difference is I will no longer be standing at mid-on or mid-off."

He also said that he was lucky to be part of such a big league as a player and never thought that he would end up as the leading wicket-taker in the league. Bravo has played 161 IPL games and has 183 wickets to his name, along with 1560 runs at a strike rate of 130.

He was an integral part of the team's title triumphs in 2011, 2018, and 2021, as well as the Champions Trophy victory in 2014. He has been with CSK since 2011 and has played 144 innings, taken 168 wickets, and scored 1556 runs.

CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan also congratulated the former pacer for his stint in the league and welcomed him to his new role with the team.
