Rohit Sharma breaks MS Dhoni's record to become No. 1 ODI batter in India
The first match between India and New Zealand is underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. India won the toss and decided to bat first. India got off to a decent start, with both openers scoring 60 runs for the first wicket.
The partnership was broken on the first ball of the 13th over by the Kiwi pacer Blair Tickner, who bowled a slower delivery, and Rohit tried to hit the ball for a boundary. He couldn't time the ball, and it went up in the air.
Daryl Mitchell, who was fileind in the mid-on took an easy catch in the circle. The Indian skipper made 34 runs off 38 balls, including four boundary hits and two sixes. Rohit scored more than 80 percent of his runs through boundaries and hit two brilliant six in his little inning.
During his inning, he also broke the record held by former Indian captain MS Dhoni for the most sixes in 50-over cricket in India. Rohit hit a beautiful lofted drive off Henry Shipley to surpass MS Dhoni. Earlier, MSD held this record with 123 sixes in India, and Rohit was second with 122 sixes.
With two sixes in his inning, he now has the most sixes (124) in One Day Internationals in India. Sachin Tendulkar (71 sixes) and Yuvraj Singh (69 sixes) are next on the list. Earlier in the game, Team India made some notable changes to their playing XI. They dropped Umran Malik and gave Shardul Thakur a chance on the team.
In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel, India has selected Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order, with Washington Sundar making his comeback. India can climb to No. 1 in the team's ODI rankings if they can beat New Zealand in this series.
