Rohit Sharma's three-year-old tweet takes internet by storm after Shubman Gill slams a double hundred and it's just perfect
It was just four games ago when Ishan Kishan smashed the fastest ODI double century against Bangladesh last month. And now, India has registered yet another double century, and this time it was Shubman Gill who achieved this rare feat to become the youngest batter to do so.
Gill smashed a brilliant 208 off 149 balls, with 19 fours and 9 sixes, in the first ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday in Hyderabad. He became the fifth batter from India to achieve this feat, and he has joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan.
Meanwhile, Rohit is the only batter to have three ODI double centuries to his name, including the highest individual score of 264 runs against Sri Lanka. However, just moments after the Indian win in the first ODI led by Gill, Rohit's old tweet caught the attention of many on social media platforms.
Rohit posted the tweet in May 2020. The Indian skipper is aware of what it takes to score a double century and how special this feat is. And he must have congratulated the 24-year-old after his epic knock against New Zealand, but there couldn't be a better way to congratulate Gill for his achievement than the three-year-old tweet from Rohit.
Thanks future 😉 https://t.co/2tTUkuDr50— Rohit Sharma (@ImRo45) May 1, 2020
Notably, it was on the 33rd birthday of Rohit Sharma when Gill wished him, "Well no one does pull shots better than the #Hitman Happy Birthday! @ImRo45." And in reply, Rohit wrote, "Thanks future."
Well, who would have thought that after a couple of years, Rohit would be welcoming Gill into the elite club of ODI double centuries? On the other hand, after the game, the Indian captain praised the 24-year-old, saying that his knock was crucial and that he scored 208 runs while the next best was only 34, demonstrating the significance of the knock.
